Les Madeleines

"Life begins at the end of your comfort zone." - Neale Donald Walsch

If you know me then you know I have a very small comfort zone. This year is about pushing the boundaries of that comfort zone, doing things I haven't done before and finding myself again. There are so many places I want to go and so many things I want to try. I know my best year ever won't happen by staying inside my house watching movies, so this morning I got dressed and headed out the door.

One of the places I have been wanting to try is Les Madeleines.

Les Madeleines is a cute place, the decor is more modern with small photographs from the owners travels around the world. As a patisserie I was expecting Parisian decor and jazz music. However, it's still a nice place to sit down and enjoy yourself.

I ordered the kouing aman and a latte. The kouing aman is a flaky pastry that is crunchy and sweet, but not too sweet. The inside is slightly gooey, but not in an under cooked way, in a delicious, flaky kind of way. The kouing aman is a specialty for Les Madeleines and they will deliver it anywhere in the United States. They tout it as their "slightly addictive specialty", which I think is an understatement. If you want my address so you can send me some I will be more than happy to give it to you. I was a little bit excited when I was given my latte in a ceramic cup instead of a cardboard cup. It was the most beautiful latte I have ever had, it was also delicious! Perhaps I need to get out more and stop getting drive thru lattes.

Not only do they have pastries but they also serve breakfast and lunch. On the lunch menu is a macaroni and cheese made with béchamel sauce and gruyere cheese. I've already decided to bring my kids back here since none of us can resist a good mac and cheese.

You can find Les Madeleines at 216 E 500 S in Salt Lake. They are open Tuesday thru Saturday from 8 am - 4 pm and are closed on Sunday and Monday.

The weekend

This is my first weekend without my kids. I had anticipated it to be a rough one so I tried to keep it busy.

Friday night the plan was to go up to The Canyons with my mom and some friends and watch an outdoor showing of Little Miss Sunshine. When we got up there we checked into our condo and just stayed there because it was so rainy and wet and only one of us was dressed for the cool mountain air. We got our room from All Seasons Resort Lodging in Park City, for a room in Park City I think the room was pretty inexpensive. We stayed at the Red Pines Condos at the base of the Canyons Resort. This condo was amazing! It was updated and clean and felt so nice and cozy. The whole time I kept thinking it would be nice to be there with a guy instead of my mom and her friends haha.

We went to to store and got lots of munchies and stayed up talking about things I can't ever forget and I don't dare repeat but it was a blast. But I was no match for the old ladies, I fell asleep early and they stayed up until 2 in the morning!

I definitely plan on going up again soon. Next time I think I'll stay the whole weekend and go hiking up the trails or hang out in Park City and ride the Alpine Slide.

Here is the info for the All Seasons Resort, you can tell them I sent you but it won't get you much :)

Saturday my friend, Chandra, and I went to one of the places that is quickly becoming my favorite, The Slurp. It's in American Fork right on Main Street. They are located inside a cute older home that has been redone. It's owned by my friend Jessica's brother and sister in law, and is the cutest place!

This has been my forth time here! I always get the Jacked Up Diet Coke and a sugar cookie, I cannot tell you enough how delicious it is! (The chocolate chip cookie is pretty darn good too!) My friend got the Mango Mountain, which is Mountain Dew with mango flavoring, I am in no way a Mountain Dew fan but that drink was incredible!

They also have snow cones, coffee, smoothies and other treats.

If you live in Utah County, go now {well not NOW because they are not open on Sundays} and if you live anywhere else it is worth the drive!

Hello.

My name is Nicole and this is my blog.

There is so much that Utah has to offer and most of the time we wonder why people choose to come to Utah. I love exploring around Utah and finding new places to eat and shop.

I hope that through this blog I can help people see how exciting Utah can be!
